Carino Japanese Bistro brings an innovative menu and concept that is novel to Calgary, successfully marrying Japanese cuisine to French/Italian influences. Love the detailing on the pressed tin ceiling. Token lighting shot. Always like to see a good chalkboard menu! Foie gras chawan-mushi (Japanese steamed egg custard) is a must try! Pictures don't do the foie gras chawan-mushi justice. Gnocchi with pork belly as a side. Feature main - oxtail stew and omelette with sizzling mushroom rice. Chocolate cake, banana brulee and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Mentaiko pasta with pollock roe, scallop and prawn.

French & Japanese Influences at Carino Japanese Bistro

My personal favorite dish of the night was the foie gras chawan-mushi (Japanese steamed egg custard). The combination of the dashi and delicate foie flavour was simply amazing! The seared foie gras over the braised daikon & dashi broth and mentaiko pasta were also very good.

John Gilchrist from CBC recently gave Carino a 9 out of 10, which has increased traffic to this location significantly during the past few weeks. Recommend making a reservation to be safe!

Would like to go back and try the much hyped teriyaki Kobe beef burger (not to mention the crab cake, mozzarella agedashi and intriguing brunch options).
